about

It is difficult, in the popular imagination, to disentangle heaven from fairyland. There’s lots of nonsense about harp-playing, not to mention the idea that loved-ones—on ‘passing over’—mutate into angels, apparently delighted to float benignly for eternity amongst fluffy white clouds, singing boring hymns.
In a world that is no longer geocentric, or even heliocentric, the idea of heaven being ‘up there’ or—perish the thought—hell being ‘down there’ makes no sense at all. It is ironic, though, that physicists, unable to accept the zillion-to-one chance of a universe such as ours existing (with so many physical constants at just the right level) are happy to consider that there are (of course) an infinite number of universes, and we just happen to live in the good one. Ironic too that Fred Hoyle’s derisory term ‘the Big Bang’, coined because he considered the idea of a beginning somewhat laughable, is possibly one of the most persuasive pointers to the existence of God. Is it so naive to suggest that there is a spiritual realm?
This Gospel Song celebrates the triumph of Christ over evil, the reunification, if you like, of earth and heaven. Don’t let the imagery fool you into thinking that heaven is fairyland. Jesus is truly Adonai—Lord of all.

lyrics

Thunder roars in heaven, a thousand voices sing
Glory, praise and honour to the mighty King of Kings
The one who was slain
Living again

Here on earth we echo heaven’s joyful song
Death has been defeated and the victory is won
Freedom to live
Radical love

Healing grace like a river flows
Now the light of mercy shines upon this earth

Let our song of praise rise to heaven now
Honouring the one who died
Joining with the angels we lift up his
Precious name—Jesus Adonai
Risen from the dead he reigns!
Burning like a living flame
Of sacred love, of sacred love

Who are we to offer praise to one so high?
Founder of creation and the architect of time
Beginning and end
Author of life?

Yet you call us nearer to your wounded side
Offering forgiveness and embracing us with life
Healing the past
Freedom at last!

Death has died—no more crying now
Only tears of joy that wash away our pain

Let our song of praise…

about

John de Jong UK

I grew up with a slightly schizophrenic interest in both English and American folk-blues and traditional English hymns. I've always been passionate about the acoustic guitar, but in recent recent years my tastes have expanded somewhat. The Rock Mass is evidence of this. Hope you enjoy the music! ... more
