about

We live in a world obsessed with ABCs, BBCs and CNNs: a wall-to-wall preoccupation with ‘news’, cameras focused on blood and the despair of innocents. Our living rooms, sports clubs, pubs and airport lounges are filled with screens—hypodermics that inject us with pessimism (on the hour and every half-hour). After all, bad news sells advertising and increases circulation. We all enjoy a good rape.
This tsunami of bad news, ironically, inoculates us against reality; it is a destructive wave that scythes inland, masking all that is good, rejoicing in annihilation like a fundamentalist preacher. But, in the great scheme of things, it is a wave that can only encroach the margins of reality. Our focus is nevertheless monopolised by this wave of death; our gaze is distracted—diverted from vast hinterlands of unfathomable beauty. Some even say there is a transcendent realm where even more beauty waits to be discovered.
A preoccupation with the analysis and dissection of reality has blinded us to its aesthetic power. It is through surfaces that we discern a work of art, not by analysing chemicals and pigments. As we regard the interaction and relationship between aesthetic elements, meaning emerges, and we understand a little of the intention of the artist. In a world fearful of meditation, where most only cast a furtive glance at naked reality, we must rediscover the power of the aesthetic regard—the power to listen to the song of life, a symphony of light and stardust kissed with being.

lyrics

Pulse of power, dance of sun and stars, the moon that
Pulls the tide in rhythm with your heart that beats with
Love for life, a symphony of light and star-dust
Kissed with being, fused with Spirit-song, calls us to…

Celebrate the gift of being!
Life and love, joy of creation!
Celebrate the Master’s touch
Join the song!

Cell divides and hawk with piercing eye soars on the
Thermal wind fuelled by a nuclear sun above the
Wind and waves in constant hymn of praise sung to the
Architect who gives the universe the power to—

Celebrate the gift of being!
Life and love, joy of creation!
Celebrate the Master’s touch
Join the song!

about

John de Jong UK

I grew up with a slightly schizophrenic interest in both English and American folk-blues and traditional English hymns. I've always been passionate about the acoustic guitar, but in recent recent years my tastes have expanded somewhat. The Rock Mass is evidence of this. Hope you enjoy the music! ... more
